Hello SPRING! Welcome to our Garden! Today we will discuss on the Five Most important gardening tips for Early Spring and tell you some important tasks to perform just before the onset of Spring.
Importance of Spring Gardening
Spring is the most active and important period for gardening. Plants awaken from their dormant winter period, and applying these five steps just before they start their active growth can significantly enhance their development and yield.
5: Clean Up Your Garden
The first step is to clean up your garden if you haven’t done so regularly. Remove debris such as fallen leaves, twigs, dirt, and other garbage. A neat and clean garden creates a perfect environment for plants to thrive.
4: Address Weeds
Early spring weeds can be a nuisance, stealing nutrients from the soil and competing with your plants. Head out into your yard and start pulling these weeds, ensuring you remove them at the root level to prevent regrowth.
3: Fertilizers and Soil Preparation
Winter can make your soil hard and compact. You don’t need to completely repot your plants; instead, till the top 1 or 2 inches of soil carefully without damaging the roots. Apply fertilizer or mix the top soil with compost, such as decomposed cow dung powder or vermicompost. Add one handful of this mixture every 15 days to support growth during this crucial stage.
2: Pruning
Pruning involves trimming or cutting plant branches. This is the best time to prune summer plants and perform hard pruning on older plants. Pruning encourages healthy growth and makes plants bushier. You can watch a detailed video on different pruning techniques here.
1: Start Planting New Seeds or Plants
Depending on your location, you can begin planting new seeds for summer vegetables or flowering plants. Stay tuned for a detailed video on this topic soon.
